Dr. Berardi operates professionally through the company he co-founded, Science Link, Inc. The company's stated mission is "to take the latest research findings from human performance and nutrition labs and universities around the world and translate those findings into real-world results for our clients and readers."
Personal life
Dr. Berardi, the son of Italian immigrants Sam and Marie Berardi, was born on July 18, 1974 in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. He attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School, Lansdale Catholic High School, and North Penn High School. After grade 12, Dr. Berardi worked for 2 years in the family restaurant (The Bread Crumb; Doylestown, PA), while attending classes at Montgomery County Community college and training for the 1995 NABBA Mr. Jr USA Bodybuilding Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada. After winning the Jr. Division of the Mr. USA contest, Berardi left the Lansdale area to complete his undergraduate education in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. Several academically-related moves brought Dr. Berardi toAustin, Texas in 2005. He currently splits his time between Austin, Texas and Toronto, Ontario.
Education
Dr. Berardi attended Lock Haven University from 1995-1997, where he studied Health Science, Philosophy, and Psychology, earning his B.Sc. in Health Science.
After his undergraduate studies were completed, Dr. Berardi moved to Pittsburgh to study under Dr. Thomas Kamark at the Behavioral Medicine Research Lab of the University of Pittsburgh. He was involved in Dr. Kamark’s research into the behavioral and physiological correlates with cardiovascular disease, titled the Pittsburgh Healthy Heart Project.
In 1999, Dr. Berardi began his Master's studies in Exercise Physiology at Eastern Michigan University. While working on his Master's degree, Dr. Berardi was the first recipient of the Pinnacle/Bodyonics Sports Nutrition Scholarship and also was awarded external research grants from LPJ, Inc. and Nutritech to complete his Master's research.
In 2000, after 1 year as a Master's student, Dr. Berardi was invited to "fast track" into the Kinesiology doctoral program at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario Canada.
Around this time, Dr. Berardi earned his strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
